Rural Tennessee is in good hands with Bill Jolley serving on the Tennessee Rural Hospital Transformation Act Advisory Committee. Bill is passionate about improving rural healthcare access in the state and has spent his career advocating for Tennessee’s rural hospitals. He currently serves a dual role as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Center for Health Workforce Development (TCWD) and the Vice President of Rural Health Issues for the Tennessee Hospital Association (THA).
Under Bill’s leadership, TCWD is addressing workforce challenges in the state, especially in rural and underserved areas. Programs include; offering incentives to medical residents to practice in underserved areas, matching clinicians with rural practice opportunities and encouraging students to pursue opportunities in medicine, nursing and allied health professions.
At THA, Bill is an incredible resource for Tennessee’s hospitals. He concentrates on building and maintaining a network of Tennessee’s small and rural hospitals so that each can be connected and supported in a state-wide community. His efforts include; developing rural programs and initiatives, providing technical assistance and offering guidance and other support services designed to improve clinical, financial and operational performance. He also identifies and tracks healthcare policy issues that affect small and rural hospitals, delivers up to date legislative and regulatory information, seeks grant funding and other financial opportunities for the hospitals and serves as liaison to the Rural Health Association of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Rural Hospital Transformation Act of 2018 is designed to support our rural hospitals as the healthcare system is in flux. The Advisory Committee will be assessing hospital viability and identifying new delivery models, strategic partnerships and necessary operational changes to enable the continuation of healthcare services in rural communities. With nine hospitals already closed in Tennessee, second only to Texas, the Advisory Committee’s goal to create a transformation plan which will provide recommendations and actionable steps for preserving healthcare services in the target hospital community is both timely and urgently needed.
